Favor Over Few: PT II

You know one thing that separates the good teachers from the great ones? The ability to handle the small things. If you can't handle the little challenges that come up in the classroom, you'll never be able to handle the big ones.

Like an aspiring athlete, you have to start by mastering the basics. You have to put in the work every day, honing your skills and perfecting your craft. You must have the discipline to stay focused. You must have the drive to outwork your peers. If you can't handle the small things - the early morning workouts, the tedious drills, the mental grind - you'll never make it to the big leagues.

As an educator, the same is true in your career. You have to pay attention to the little details, the small choices you make every day. The small choices add up to big results over time. You have to be willing to do the little things right, even when nobody's watching, even when it's hard, even when it seems like it doesn't matter. Because that's how you build the habits and the mindset of a master educator.

So next time you're tempted to "wing a lesson", cut corners on a project, or slack off and take it easy. Remember, "If you can't handle the small things, you will not be able to handle the big things."

The Details Matter.
